First Home in Fernie’s Fastest Selling Community Breaks Ground

Home construction begins at Montane, Fernie the new community next to the historic downtown

FERNIE B.C. Parastone Developments broke ground today on the first home in its new community. Construction has begun on the first home in the master-planned, sustainable community’s first neighbourhood, The Terraces.

Parastone partners Tony Dennis and Jason Smith were on-site for the groundbreaking with hard hats and shovels, and were joined by deputy mayor Jon Levesque and homeowner Jeremiah Macgregor with wife, Terry.

“We’re excited to begin construction on the closest new community to downtown Fernie,” says Tony Dennis, developer and investor in Montane, Fernie. “Now that we’ve reached this milestone, we’re going to start to see our vision turn into a reality. More homeowners will be breaking ground before winter sets in.”

Jeremiah Macgregor and his family were one of the first homebuyers at Montane. Raised in Elkford, Macgregor and his wife have spent their whole lives in the valley and moved to Fernie in 2005 to pursue an outdoor lifestyle. The Fernie local’s number one reason for buying at Montane was location. “You’re in the midst of really nice trails and the creek, but you’re also close to downtown. The location is fantastic and the whole community offers amazing views,” says Macgregor.

While construction has begun on the first home in The Terraces, the community has proven quite popular as there are only 12 homes sites left in the first phase of 45 homes and many homeowners will start building in 2015 and 2016. Montane, Fernie is a sustainable master-planned community designed by Diamond Head Consulting, a progressive environmental consulting firm specializing in ecosystem management, planning and design.

It resides on 600 acres of land, with 70 per cent of the land remaining vacant for parks, courtyards and greenways that will be dispersed throughout individual neighbourhoods. Montane, Fernie is flanked by Brewery Creek and Coal Creek and each home site capitalizes on spectacular mountain views.

Appealing to outdoor enthusiasts seeking an active mountain lifestyle, Montane, Fernie residents will have access to an extensive multi-use trail system from their doorstep, which will be within 100 metres of every home. Developed in partnership with the Fernie Trail Alliance, trails will extend into the backyard wilderness of Castle Mountain and the Morrisey Range.

Montane, Fernie allows for convenient access to the town’s amenities, with residents living within a five to ten minute walk from downtown Fernie. Initially, the community will be comprised of single-family homes and will include cottages, townhomes and estate properties. At full build out, the value of all homes will be more than $200 million. The 12 home sites remaining in The Terraces vary between 6,223 sq. ft. and 11,302 sq. ft. Prices range between $163,900 and $259,000.

Montane, Fernie’s newest option for homebuyers is an innovative cottage design that maximises mountain views and offers minimal maintenance. Featuring copious amount of storage space, The Cottages at Montane are priced to sell in the high $300,000s.

The Cottages at Montane appeal to singles, couples, small families and the weekend warrior. They are small, yet efficient. Residents enjoy generous storage and garages to allow for space for four seasons of outdoor gear. Featuring elevated living spaces, each cottage is strategically positioned to capitalize on views of the dramatic mountain scenery. Parastone is now accepting reservations and will release The Cottages in 2016. A show home is being built in November. Interested parties can register at www.montanefernie.ca.

Parastone has a proven track record with development in Fernie, having completed 901 Fernie, a $30 million restoration of a 1908 Fernie schoolhouse transformed into an iconic building with condominium residences, vacation rentals, and spa and wellness centre.
